
History – Adams County was created in 1902. Prior to that time, it had been part of an enormous Arapahoe County. The County was named after Alva Adams, a popular former governor. Brighton became the county seat and a new courthouse was built at 4th and Bridge Street in 1906. That building is now the Brighton City Hall.

The population was 441,603 as of the 2010 census. Adams County covers about 759,000 acres and stretches 72 miles east to west and 17 miles south to north.
